Panama-flagged cargo ship capsizes off Vietnam, 15 sailors missing
At least 15 sailors were missing on Thursday after a Panama-flagged cargo ship capsized in rough seas off Vietnam, Vietnamese state media said.
The incident happened off the central province of Binh Thuan when the Xin Hong with 11 Chinese and four Vietnamese sailors onboard was transporting 7,800 tonnes of clay from Malaysia to Hong Kong, Nhan Dan newspaper reported.
Sailors had contacted Vietnam for help earlier on Thursday when the ship began to list in rough seas, the report said.
Vietnam has sent a rescue team, including a coast guard vessel, to search for the missing sailors, the report said, adding that the team had found an inflatable life raft near the sinking ship with no one inside.

At 4.30 pm on December 17, the Panamanian-flagged ship named Xin Hong was carrying 7,800 tonnes of clay from Malaysia to Hong Kong. At the time, it had 15 crew members, including 11 Chinese and four Vietnamese members, on board. Because of bad weather, the cargo on the ship started to shift. The captain of the ship then asked for permission to take shelter at Phu Quy Port. However, on the way, it sank 1.5 nautical miles from Phu Quy Island.

province of Binh Thuan, said on December 18 that three rescued sailors are Vietnamese
and the other seven Chinese nationals.
They are being taken
care of on a vessel of the
Vietnam Coast Guard and will be sent to Phu Quy
island for further medical treatment in line with COVID-19 preventive measures.
