Police technology students in Quebec this year will see the gradual addition to their curriculum of 45 hours of training on dealing with the province’s minority groups, Higher Education Minister Danielle McCann announced on Wednesday.
The addition to the course load is a reflection of the importance of Quebec police forces being able to effectively communicate, understand and intervene with the province’s racialized, ethnic and Indigenous communities.

The skill sets contained in the training are deemed as necessary in an urban milieu as they are in First Nations and Inuit communities, and are a response to recommendations by various task forces and commissions, including the Legault government’s Groupe d’action contre le racisme.
