It was celebration time for Hawke s Bay s Tommy Watts at the weekend, with back-to-back wins in the South Island earning him his first national motorcycling cross-country title.
The 19-year-old Napier-based former Wairoa man had a share of the lead in the Yamaha-sponsored competition after the first two four rounds for the series, with just two days of high-speed motorcycle racing in the South Island, near Balclutha on Saturday and then near Mosgiel on Sunday, to wrap it all up.
Woody: We Owe Palace One

Anthony Wordsworth was still a Colchester player when Mick McCarthy saw his team crushed 5-0 at Selhurst Park in what was only his second game in charge.
But the midfielder, snapped up by McCarthy in January, is only too aware of how much that result affected his Ipswich colleagues. He revealed: “I’ve listened to a few of the lads discussing that heavy defeat and it clearly hurt. They want to put one over Palace and feel they owe them one so I can see it being a good game against them.
Town 3-0 Crystal Palace
Tuesday, 16th Apr 2013 21:54
Frank Nouble scored twice and Aaron Cresswell the Town goal of the season as three late first half strikes saw the Blues to a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Portman Road. Palace dominated until keeper Julian Speroni gifted Nouble his first goal for the Blues on 37, then in first half injury time Cresswell slammed in a brilliant second, before another catastrophic error, this time from Peter Ramage, led to Nouble’s second. Mick McCarthy’s men comfortably saw out the second half.
Nouble and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas returned to the Town side with Michael Chopra and Jay Tabb, who suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Hull, dropping to the bench.
