It turns out that 13WHAM’s Glenn Johnson isn’t the only longtime Rochester meteorologist signing off the air for good on Thursday.
WROC-TV’s Josh Nichols announced on Twitter that today was his last broadcast on the CBS affiliate after five years.
As to the reason, he wrote: “The answer is a bit complicated, but the bottom line is that it is a business decision that’s been made that I’ve known about for some time now. And now I’ve come to the day that I must say so long to my TV viewers.”

The Pullman Chamber of Commerce canceled the National Lentil Festival because of uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions.
The lentil festival is typically held the weekend before the start of classes at WSU, said Francis Benjamin, WSU’s Department of Psychology information systems coordinator.
The lentil festival
was canceled last year because of COVID-19 as well, Benjamin said. This year, the festival was canceled because Gov. Jay Inslee has not set clear guidance on outdoor events yet.
Even if certain COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, there would not be enough time to have the festival. Generally, the celebration takes about a year to plan, he said.
Glenn Johnson is leaving the Rochester ABC affiliate on May 27.
“You may ask why I am leaving,” Johnson wrote in a message on Facebook. “Like other businesses, television has had a difficult time during the pandemic. As a result, my position has been eliminated due to workforce reduction.”
Johnson started with the station in 1985 as an intern. Later that year, he was hired as a part-time meteorologist after graduating from SUNY Brockport.
Four years later, he was promoted to the morning and midday newscasts. The Democrat and Chronicle says he was named chief meteorologist in 2001 when his mentor,
Bill Peterson, retired.
