WILLIAMSTOWN The Wood County Airport Authority met Tuesday morning to discuss airport updates involving projects, property leases and the possibility of drilling for natural gas.
The airport is working on the precision approach path indicator, a visual aid to help pilots land a plane.
Previously, the PAPI had a tree obstruction which was removed but after a flight check, there was a terrain obstruction on one side.
“The only possible fix is to re-engineer the approach. I’m waiting on the email from the flight check team before I move forward,” airport manager Glen Kelly said. “It’s a pretty big undertaking.”

WILLIAMSTOWN The Transportation Security Administration is enforcing a new mask mandate at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport.
Airport Manager Glen Kelly was informed of the change Monday evening which involves everyone on airport property wearing a mask at all times and in-between bites and sips while eating or drinking.
“This is a giant expansion. They can hold me directly responsible. If they fail to do so, I’m supposed to call law enforcement and do an incident report,” Kelly said.
TSA is enforcing the new protocol in support of President Joe Biden’s federal mask mandate by executive order. The mandate extends not only to the TSA areas of the airport, but the entire property including privately rented hangers.

WILLIAMSTOWN – The Wood County Airport Authority approved a mineral lease during Tuesday’s meeting which would allow for drilling for natural gas.
Although contingent on the approval from the Federal Aviation Administration and meeting the market value requirements, the airport would partner with Tri-River Contractors LLC to search for gas on the property.
“This has been a negotiation going on the last three months. We hope we do come to a deal,” Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport manager Glen Kelly said. “It would mean that we would get a percentage of the profits from that and the percentage that we put forward is 15 percent.”
