Online scammers targeting farming community
The cattle farmer, from Mitchell in the Western Downs, recently fell foul of the business email compromise (BEC) scam when he purchased cattle at Auction Plus, and transferred money using account details on a TopX invoice that had been hacked by scammers.
BEC scams occur when a hacker gains access to a business’s email accounts, or ‘spoof’ a business’s email so their emails appear to come from the company.
The hacker then sends emails to customers claiming that the business’s banking details have changed and that future invoices should be paid to a new account.

Emergency use permit ups fall armyworm fight
Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities The Honourable Mark Furner
The Queensland Government has welcomed the emergency use approval of a biopesticide to combat fall armyworm (FAW).
Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner said the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) had issued an Emergency Use Permit (EUP) which allows Fawligen to be used on the invasive pest.
“The swift approval of the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ (DAF) application, prepared jointly with AgBiTech – the Australian company that developed and produces Fawligen – is a significant step in the battle against this voracious pest,” Mr Furner said.
Sunshine Coast Council
Whether you’re holidaying at home or visiting the Sunshine Coast, everyone is asked to continue to mask up even though the Greater Brisbane lockdown has ended.
The Chief Health Officer has made it a requirement in all areas of Queensland that you must carry a face mask with you at all times when you leave home, unless you have a lawful reason not to.
You must wear a mask in indoor spaces and it is strongly recommended you wear a mask when outdoors if you are unable to stay more than 1.5 metre distance from other people.
