Disabled First Nations man Justen Thomas, 43, turned to crime after he was abused by a Scout Leader, made a ward of the state and put into group homes. He was abused at age 11, homeless by 13 and took refuge at nights by sleeping on trains and at stations. But instead of trying to help, authorities locked him up when he wasn t able to pay thousands of dollars in fines he d accrued for fare evasion and trespass.

Subscriber only A parent is calling for a broader police investigation into the past of a Brisbane primary school teacher who took his own life after being charged with secretly filming female students in a change room.
The Australian reports that parents have raised concerns that Michael Patrick Robertson, 51, a Year 6 teacher at St Columbia s Primary School, may have done the same thing a decade ago. Robertson died on February 25 after being charged with two counts of making a recording in breach of privacy.

Subscriber only An anaesthetist who kissed a drunk woman and touched her breasts after she partially passed out in a Brisbane nightclub has been sentenced to probation and community service. Witnesses said the woman was so intoxicated after midnight at Cloudland nightclub in Fortitude Valley on December 15, 2019, that she could not walk unassisted. She appeared to look out of it or wasted when Elliott sexually assaulted her, kissing her, touching her breasts and putting his hand under her skirt, the court heard. Kevin Charles Elliott, 50, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrates Court to indecent assault and was sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours community service.

Subscriber only A Redlands Coast man is on trial accused of torturing his six-year-old daughter, allegedly breaking her arm, shaving her head and forcing her to lick her own urine off the floor during months of abuse. The 31-year-old father, who cannot be named, appeared in Brisbane District Court on Monday where he pleaded not guilty to torture, child cruelty, grievous bodily harm, four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of common assault. Crown prosecutor Carly Whelan told the court that the girl was not given adequate food, care or bedding and was regularly assaulted by her father at the family s Capalaba house between May 2018 and January 2019.

Subscriber only ALLEGED Lone Wolf bikie Garry James Brush will be extradited to Queensland, where he is expected to be charged with the alleged murder of ex-bikie Shane Ross and his business partner. Garry Brush is set to appeal a conviction in NSW. Brush, 32, faced an extradition hearing in the Grafton Local Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Jeff Linden ordered he be sent to Queensland to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday. An arrest warrant for two counts of murder with a serious organised crime circumstance of aggravation and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle had previously been issued for Brush.
