KITCHENER Guelph police are looking for two people they say were trying to steal packages from porches before neighbours intervened. Officers were called to the area of Woolwich and Verney Streets around 1:30 p.m. on Monday after residents reportedly saw the pair taking off shipping labels from packages and putting the boxes in their backpacks. A neighbour yelled at the suspects, who then dropped the packages on a front yard and ran away, according to officials. The first suspect is described as a white malewho stood around 5 7, 180 pounds, and was wearing bulky clothing and a Canada face mask. The second suspect is described as a white female whitewho was wearing a bright pink backpack and a face mask.
KITCHENER A person has been saved $5,000 after Guelph police and a bank employee worked together to prevent a case of fraud. Police were contacted shortly before 1 p.m. Monday by an employee of a bank on Woodlawn Road who said a distraught female had entered the branch. The female was claiming that she was being threatened and need to withdrawal $5,000 immediately. The male on the other end of her cell phone call was telling her that her bank account had been compromised, thatit would be frozen unless the requested money was taken out, and that he would provide further information after that.
KITCHENER Guelph police are investigating after they say an elderly woman confronted a burglar inside her home. The 85-year-old woman was awakened at 5:30 a.m. on Monday by a window being smashed in her Woodlawn Road home, according to officials. She reportedly left her bedroom and came across a male coming out of her second-floor bathroom holding a tire iron. Police arrived shortly afterwards and say the suspect fled out the front door, which had its window broken out. He was not located. The suspect is described as around six feet tall, was wearing black clothing that included a hoodie, and carrying a tire iron.
