U S sea-level report cards: 2020 again trends toward acceleration | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

History of changes in rate of relative sea level (RSL) rise at 12 U.S. East coast locations from 2004 through 2020. Note the sharp contrast in sea-level behavior north (solid lines) and south (dotted lines) of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. (VIMS/WYD) Sea level “report cards” issued annually by researchers at William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science add further evidence of an accelerating rate of sea-level rise during 2020 at nearly all tidal stations along the U.S. coastline. The team’s web-based report cards project sea level to the year 2050 based on an ongoing analysis of tide-gauge records for 32 localities along the U.S. coast from Maine to Alaska. The analysis now includes 52 years of water-level observations, from January 1969 through December 2020. The interactive charts are available online here.

Happy Oysters for Happy Holidays - RealRadio804

“Happy Oysters for Happy Holidays” Posted by Staff | Dec 10, 2020 | News | | Bringing the taste of local oysters to the holiday table isn’t just a good idea for dinner. It’s a way to help Virginia’s aquaculture farmers, whose sales continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. AquaCultured, a grant-funded program by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and Virginia Sea Grant, will spend the next year helping oyster growers transition their business to e-commerce and specialized marketing. The VIMS extension team will connect aquaculture farmers to complementary industries, such as wineries, breweries and restaurants, in order to create a broader customer base for both businesses.
