COVID Victoria: State records seven new cases most in Ariele apartments complex

Advertisement The MCG, Highpoint shopping centre and a CBD pub have been added as exposure sites after Victoria recorded seven additional local coronavirus cases, almost all of them linked to an apartment building complex in Melbourne’s inner west. COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said the seven cases were in addition to the one new infection confirmed overnight, the fourth member of a family that had returned from Sydney, as part of the regular daily reporting and would be included in tomorrow’s official figures. Four of the new cases were third-floor residents at the Ariele Apartments complex in Maribyrnong that was visited by two COVID-positive removalists from NSW last week. The parents of one of the positive apartment residents, a man in his 60s, also tested positive. The couple, aged 89 and 90, live in Craigieburn.

The man is among eight new cases recorded today. A fourth member of the Hume family, who travelled to Victoria from Sydney last week on a red zone permit, has also tested positive. Six people linked to a Maribyrnong apartment complex visited by removalists from New South Wales, have also returned positive tests. They include an elderly couple from the City of Hume, who are the parents of a man living at the complex. COVID-19 testing has been set up at Craigieburn Central, with anyone who visited Coles on July 10 between 5:28pm to 6:38pm urged to get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days.

First published on Tue 13 Jul 2021 23.45 EDT The Victorian government is introducing tougher Covid restrictions with thousands of people in isolation awaiting test results from high-traffic exposure sites including Highpoint shopping centre and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The state’s acting chief health officer, Dr Clare Looker, on Wednesday night said masks would be compulsory indoors from Thursday. “There are steps we can take right now to protect ourselves and each other,” she said in a statement. Face masks will be mandatory indoors – other than in private homes – for all Victorians aged over 12 unless an exception applies. Workplaces and secondary schools are covered by the new rules.
