The St. Johns County Fire Rescue department, in cooperation with the PACT Prevention Coalition of St. Johns County and the St. Johns County Poly-Drug Task Force, is leading efforts to reduce the chances of unused medication getting into the wrong hands or impacting the environment.
As of last week, all county fire stations began making biodegradable bags available for free to the public for anyone wanting to safely discard prescriptions. The bags, manufactured by the Deterra company, neutralize the active ingredients of any drug so that it may not be consumed or infiltrate the water system with any effects to public safety.
