Tom Bowerman . . . Coach of the Alamo Warriors
By Butch Dale Tom Bowerman • • One of the most respected coaches in Montgomery County basketball history was Tom Bowerman, who coached at Alamo and Waynetown a total of 27 years.
Tom was born in Alamo in 1913 and spent all of his life in Ripley Township. As a junior and senior he played basketball for Alamo High School, which had no gym at that time, forcing the team to practice and play all of their home games at Wallace. After graduating in 1932, Tom headed to Wabash College where he earned a Bachelor s degree in education, and subsequently returned to his hometown to teach social studies and coach. There he remained for the next 22 years.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) Bob Jenkins began the week with a bold declaration.
“I don’t know where I am going to be on (Indianapolis 500) race day. I have no idea where I am going to watch the race from, but I will be there,” Jenkins said.
You see, previously Jenkins was aware he would likely miss his first Indianapolis 500 since 1965.
For four-plus decades, attendance was easy. Jenkins rose into one of motorsports’ premier broadcasters, rising in front of the television alongside NASCAR’s national ascension. The Liberty, Indiana, native never strayed far from home either.
Jenkins is one of the most beloved figures in Indianapolis 500 history, logging a stellar career behind the microphone on television, radio and most recently as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s public address announcer.

The Indiana Pacers forever etched their name into the NBA history books Tuesday by winning the league’s first-ever play-in game, walloping the Charlotte Hornets 144-117. The Pacers will line up this Thursday against the Washington Wizards for the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Wizards dropping a 118-100 decision to the Boston Celtics.
The Pacers are something of an anomaly in that despite being in the NBA, the crème de la crème of basketball worldwide, they are not the sport’s top dogs in their home state. College basketball is more popular, with Indiana and Purdue and Butler and Ball State plus others taking turns atop the higher education totem pole, yet even they pale in comparison to the overwhelming, omnipresent, universally beloved art of high school basketball. Steel Dynamics President and Chief Executive Mark Millett will be awarded a Doctor of Engineering honorary degree during Rose-Hulman’s in-person, outdoor Commencement on campus May 29.
