Keisha Lance Bottoms will not seek reelection for office after one term in office. Bottoms first announced the stunning decision Thursday night during a private phone call with staff, supporters and friends and confirmed the news during a press conference Friday morning.

“This has been my highest honor to serve as mayor of this city,” Bottoms said at the presser. “Many of you all have heard me speak of my family’s history in this city going back almost 100 years. My grandmother would tell me how her father, who was a child of people who were once enslaved from Crawfordville, Georgia, packed up a horse and buggy and they made their journey to Atlanta.”

Where did Zachary Wester go to school?
Wester, 28, attended Sneads High School, where he was active in Future Farmers of America and made the dean’s list. He graduated in 2010.
What did he do after graduation?
He worked at Verizon Wireless stores in Marianna and Tallahassee. He also sold cars at a Nissan dealership in Marianna.
Four years ago, Norton moved to Daytona Beach, home of the Division of Blind Services rehabilitation center, where he learned new skills, graduated from the Daytona State College paralegal program and, at age 72 earlier this month, passed the Florida Bar exam more than 40 years after clearing it the first time.
For Norton, life is again going swimmingly.
One day in Miami
Norton had a charmed childhood. Born in San Diego in 1949, his family moved to New York, then later Miami, following the career arc of his father, Dr. Edward Norton, an ophthalmologist who was on his way to founding the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami today the U.S. News & World Report No. 1 rated eye hospital.

Zachary Wester, a former Jackson County, Florida, deputy whose career in law enforcement came crashing down in 2018 after the allegations came to light, was indicted last year on a total of 52 counts, including charges of racketeering, official misconduct, perjury, fabricating evidence, false imprisonment and possession of drugs. The charges stemmed from Wester’s arrests of 11 different people.
Last month, prosecutors filed an amended information charging Wester with two dozen additional counts involving five more of his alleged victims. The charges stemmed from traffic stops in 2017 and 2018 in which drivers or passengers were arrested on drug charges including possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

A longtime South Florida nurse accused of making videos threatening Vice President Kamala Harris life has been arrested on federal charges.
Niviane Petit Phelps, of Miami Gardens, was arrested following an investigation by the U.S. Secret Service.
The 39-year-old, who has worked for Jackson Health System since 2001, faces charges of threats against the vice president, according to a criminal complaint.
