Boys and Girls Club to begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations this weekend

The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County will begin providing COVID-19 vaccinations beginning this weekend at its Sun Prairie location, President and CEO Michael Johnson said Monday. Johnson says the Boys and Girls Club will begin administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine with the help of Fitchburg Family Pharmacy and the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday at the McKenzie Family Boys and Girls Club in Sun Prairie. Everyone aged 18 and up will be eligible to get vaccinated at the Boys and Girls Club, but registration will be required. Registration will open Monday at 2 p.m. A link will be available on their Facebook page.

Everyone 16 and older is now eligible for the COVID vaccine in Wisconsin

Tony Evers announced the state was opening up vaccine eligibility to anyone 16 or older that wanted the shot last week. By opening up eligibility starting today, Wisconsin is beating President Joe Biden’s goal of every state making everyone eligible for the vaccine by May 1st by about a month. After a slow start, Wisconsin is now one of the top states in the country when it comes to distributing it vaccines allocated by the federal government. More than 20 percent of the state is now fully vaccinated.

While the election itself is non-partisan, the two candidates, Deb Kerr and Jill Underly, don’t see eye to eye on every issue. While both say it’s important to reopen public schools in Wisconsin, Kerr takes a more aggressive approach, saying it’s something she’d mandate. “Our kids and families aren’t winning right now,” said Kerr, who most recently worked as a superintendent in the Brown Deer School District.  “We need to get back into school right away. Five days a week.”
