Oxnard Airport s runway will be rehabilitated this year for the first time in nearly 20 years with $14.4 million in federal funding, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced the award Thursday as part of $845 million in grants for projects to expand capacity, increase access and curb environmental harm at airports across the country.
Ventura County s airports director Kip Turner said he expects construction to start by August and be done in four months
Workers will replace pavement on the entire 6,000-foot runway and upgrade drainage, signage and lighting.
County officials also requested but did not receive another $12 million to repave a taxiway that runs beside the runway and connectors between them. Turner said he expected to get that funding in the future.
