Seoul, April 11 : South Korean wireless carriers are estimated to have logged robust earnings in the first quarter on the back of sharp growth in 5G users and their non-telecom businesses, a poll showed on Sunday.
The combined operating profits of the country s three major mobile carriers SK Telecom Co., KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. are expected to have reached 966.5 billion won ($863.3 million) in the January-March period, up 6.8 per cent from the previous year, according to the poll on six local brokerage houses by Yonhap Infomax, the financial arm of Yonhap News Agency.

Indonesia’s remote easternmost province of Papua will be equipped with a new satellite telecom and Internet network built by a South Korean company. KT Sat, the satellite service arm of South Korean telecom giant KT Corp., said on March 8 that it has won an order to establish a high-speed satellite telecommunications network in Papua from the Indonesian government. The company said it will take part in the project to offer telecommunications services for 3.4 million Indonesians and up to 1,300 schools and public facilities in the province by partnering with local satellite internet service provider DTP. ABCDEFG SEOUL, April 8 (Yonhap) KT Sat Co., a satellite service arm of South Korean telecom giant KT Corp., said Thursday it has won an order to establish a high-speed satellite telecommunications network in Indonesia s Papua province. The company said it will take part in the Indonesian government-led project to offer telecommunications services for 3.4 million Indonesians and up to 1,300 schools and public facilities in the province by partnering with local satellite internet service provider DTP. A KT Sat official said that it will utilize its Koreasat 7 for the project, which has already been offering services in Indonesia since its launch in 2017.

LG Electronics Inc. said Tuesday it plans to develop cross-platform artificial intelligence (AI)-powered services with KT Corp., South Korea s major telecom operator, to expand use of its human-like algorithm.
LG and KT plan to commercialize services that support AI platforms from both companies after developing a joint interface. The two companies recently verified compatibility between LG s ThinQ and KT s GiGA Genie AI platforms.
The South Korean tech giant tested its smart mirror to find out whether its smart home solutions can work with KT s AI platform that provides radio, music and other digital services.
