The Māori Language Commission’s Māori moment promotion has made the finals of the global Reed Awards for grassroots advocacy and social campaigns.
Te Taura Whiri chief executive, Ngahiwi Apanui, says the Māori Language Week event had one in five New Zealanders stopping to celebrate te reo Māori together.
A survey taken at the end of last year found more than 8 in 10 people see te reo as something to be proud of and part of their identity as a New Zealander.
