Melee is one of those long-running games that pretty much has the competitive side of it carved out for it. There are a handful of characters that are known for being the top tiers, and generally you see them up and down the major tournament scene with only small deviations away from them here and there. While Yoshi does make some appearances in competitive play, his top level representation is limited, and thus we see a lot less of his higher level techniques than we would a Fox or Sheik.
