A peak in COVID cases registered at the beginning of January is decreasing, Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci said on Friday during her weekly update.
Her comments come hours after doctors sounded the alarm about the flow of COVID-19 patients to Mater Dei hospital, calling for a weekend curfew. Gauci insisted that the authorities implemented measures whenever deemed necessary.
On Friday, a total of 143 people tested positive for COVID, while three patients died and a further 201 people recovered from the virus.
Gauci said the vaccination roll-out was going well, with elderly people who are housebound set to start being vaccinated next week.

With no mention of the Vitals hearing in the 8pm national news bulletin, the Nationalist Party has filed a complaint with TVM and the Broadcasting Authority for the “lack of impartiality” this created.
The party’s secretary-general Francis Zammit Dimech penned the complaint towards PBS head Norma Saliba after no mention was made of the case, nor of former PN leader Adrian Delia’s statement after the hearing, in TVM’s evening news report.
