Coshoton County Career Center gets real-world money management lesson

About 60 students participated in the program this past week at the Coshocton County Career Center. One component is a simulation with community members walking students through a real world situation. Instructor was Emily Adams of the Ohio State University Extension Office of Coshocton County. COSHOCTON - About 60 students at the Coshoton County Career Center recently got a taste as to how finances work in the real world.  Real Money/Real World Youth Financial Literacy Program was offered through the Ohio State University Extension Office of Coshocton County and taught by Emily Adams, family and consumer sciences educator. Students learned about opening bank accounts, paying bills, writing checks, balancing checkbooks and making smart choices as consumers. The course will be offered this week at Coshocton High School.

Business is booming for contractors, most seeking new employees Time of year and stimulus funding means there is plenty of commercial and private work COSHOCTON – Construction and remodeling is a booming business currently and the COVID-19 pandemic has something to do it with it. While local contractors said people often do such projects in the spring, the available funding to do so is more than usual. This includes stimulus money for individuals and CARES Act funding for government agencies leading to capital projects or freeing up other money for such projects. Bill Dunfee of Cross Builders said he knows when new stimulus checks hit, because he starts getting calls for home improvements.

One can vote until May 6 at the award website. In it s 25th year, the Webby s honors the best on the internet.  The game was created by Chees at 3, whose chief operating officer is Coshocton native Harlan Alford. The game is designed to teach children as young as 3 the game of chess with stories that coincide to the pieces and how they move.

Murdered Coshocton woman remembered as a light to all Several hundred attended candlelight vigil in memory of Brianna Ratliff Brianna Ratliff went missing April 15 and her dead body was found April 18 in a vacant house. Blake Grewell, a friend, has been charged with murder in the case and bail set at $1 million. A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday at Hall Park to honor Brianna with several hundred people attending. Brianna s mother said her daughter was a light in the world and had nothing but love for everyone. COSHOCTON - Laurelanne Ratliff knows that her daughter Brianna was a good person who touched a lot of people and was kind to everyone. This was evident by several hundred people who attended a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening at Hall Park in memory of the murdered 20-year-old.
