COVINGTON, Ga. When cheers of “Sine Die!” rang throughout the State Capitol on April 1, it marked the end of Rep. Sharon Henderson’s first Georgia General Assembly session as a lawmaker.
Henderson, D-Covington, was sworn into office on Jan. 11 after defeating five-term incumbent Rep. Pam Dickerson for the District 113 seat in the June 2020 Democrat Primary. Henderson is the lone Newton County legislator that resides within the county. She represents portions of Newton and Rockdale counties.

SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. State investigators working with the Social Circle Fire Department have determined that a fire at the old Social Circle Cotton Mills on Sunday was intentionally set, an area newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, Social Circle s fire chief said his department was still trying to extinguish the remains of a fire today that damaged an old mill building in Social Circle Sunday afternoon.

COVINGTON, Ga. Newton County s tax commissioner says he needed the experience of a former county attorney to help him fulfill campaign promises to collect past due property taxes and give homeowners tax relief.

COVINGTON, Ga. A longtime Newton County resident said she “can exhale now” after her son was found recently following his alleged December murder in Kentucky.
Police in Tennessee identified human remains found March 2 in Clarksville as 20-year-old Justin Sawyer, who had been reported missing since Dec. 17, WSMV-TV in Nashville reported.
Sawyer’s mother, Tracy Jackson, told
The Covington News the family is waiting on authorities in Tennessee to finish their investigation into his death.
