After a review meeting consisting of several panch members, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has decided to scrap the plans to build a new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Shel-Melauli due to violent protests in the area.

Protests against proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus at Shel-Melauli village in Goa s Sattari tehsil turned violent on Wednesday after locals and police clashed.
Why are locals in Goa protesting?
The IIT-Goa campus is proposed on a 10 lakh square metre area in Shel-Malauli and Guleli villages, some 50 kilometres from Panaji.
