Spring break has officially begun at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. While that means relaxation and fun time away from school for many students, it also can mean uncertainty for students who rely on school meals for breakfast and lunch. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has developed a new way to keep students fed during the break.Click the video player above to watch the latest headlines from WXII 12 News.Families with students under the age of 18 can pick up free meal bundle kits that last a week.Each bundle includes seven days of breakfast and lunch meals, as well as fresh produce and a gallon of milk. This week, they will be able to make tacos, quesadillas, southwestern chicken skillet bakes, enchiladas. and a couple of other things, Katie Willard said. Willard serves as the marketing specialist for the child nutrition department at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.Each meal requires some preparation before serving. Bowling alleys are one of the many businesses included in the easing of coronavirus restrictions starting Friday.They can now invite in more customers and entertain the late-night crowd. Creekside Lanes in Winston-Salem said it is not as affected by capacity restrictions as other businesses.Social distancing guidelines limit the number of lanes that can be used at one time. Therefore, owners said it is benefitting most from the curfew being lifted and business hours being extended. I hope with the later hours, some of the folks that want to come out a little bit later will be able to come back out. I know people are tired of being home all the time. But we are doing the safety measures and they can always call to see how busy we are, said Cindy Scott, manager of Creekside Lanes. Creekside Lanes plans to slowly ease their customers into the new business hours. They close at 11 p.m. Friday and will gradually stay open even later as time goes on.
