Local Fianna Fail representatives say Minister for Housing Darragh O Brien has confirmed that €11.46 million is to be allocated to Kilkenny for the Abbey Quarter Development. A further €6.64 million is being allocated by Government for the city enhancement and liveability initiative.

The vision for Kilkenny s Abbey Quarter has been given a significant boost with the granting of planning permission for a major portion of the proposed site development today.
Kilkenny County Council has welcomed the decision of An Bord Pleanala to grant planning permission for the development of the urban park and street which will run through the site.
“One of the key reasons for the Council purchasing the former Smithwicks Brewery site was to ensure that areas of high quality public realm could be provided within the former Smithwicks Brewery site to integrate the site into the existing city centre, says Cllr Andrew McGuinness.

The HSE has joined with the gardai and Kilkenny County Council to reiterate basic messages on preventing the spread of Covid 19.
Speaking as one in a special appeal, after both an extension of existing restrictions and additional measures were announced last week by the government, the three principal response agencies say the Covid-19 incidence rate locally in the first month of 2021 has been very worrying and remains a very serious concern.
