PEP Grants set for approval by county committee Scott Cousins, scousins@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail EDWARDSVILLE – Park and recreation grants totaling more than $1.1 million were approved by the Madison County Board’s Grants Committee Monday for projects ranging from new and improved paths and trails to repayment of previous park loans. Funding comes from the county’s portion of the park and recreation tax. In 2000 voters in Madison and St. Clair counties approved a 1/10th percent sales tax to fund recreation projects and create the Metro East Park and Recreation District. Half the money goes to the respective counties to be disbursed as grants, the rest to the MEPRD for its project, which also includes grants.
