Almost immediately after Gov. Ned Lamont announced, and defended, Philip Morris International’s move to Connecticut from New York, the tobacco giant launched an advertising blitz touting its work to become “smoke-free” and how the state’s role in scientific research can help it reach that goal.
Anti-tobacco advocates dismissed Philip Morris’ work, advertised on numerous websites soon after the relocation was announced Tuesday at a news conference in Stamford. Critics also took aim at Lamont, saying he’s failing to do more to stamp out tobacco use.
