Ned Pettus:
Under any circumstance, that is a horrendous tragedy. But the video shows that there is more to this. It requires us to pause, take a close look at the sequence of events and, though it s not easy, wait for the facts, as determined by an independent investigation.

The shootings are a reminder of the unending pattern of killings of Black Americans, often at the hands of the police, who, despite the Chauvin conviction, are rarely convicted of a crime.

NEW BOSTON After a canceled meeting at the first of the month, The Village of New Boston held their first council meeting of April Tuesday evening with five members present and Councilman Dan Fetty absent.
Following the disposal of minutes from the March 16, 2021, meeting, the mayor discussed a letter of resignation from Ryan Hayes from the New Boston Fire Department. Williams stated the department already had a replacement and discussed confirmation letters for Hayden Rogers to replace Hayes.
The unanimous decision by the jury is being viewed as a sign of progress by many allies and activists alike around the Sunshine State. Community leaders, organizers and activists all spoke out immediately following the reading of the verdict with their initial thoughts. We can taste justice in America today, said Sarasota activist, mother and Black Lives Matter Manasota board member Sarah Parker. She called the verdict a small victory in a very long battle for racial and social justice. Having justice served in a system that we have little or no faith in, it is surprising, Parker explained. This conviction does remind us why we are in this fight. As a Black woman, with children, sometimes we need that refresher, these moments, to remind us why we re doing this.

Emotions poured out in Palm Beach County and across Florida after the conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd.
Local activist Bryce Graham followed the trial minute by minute from his West Palm Beach apartment. On Tuesday, he watched the verdicts handed down alongside his mom and girlfriend. After each guilty verdict was read, Graham sat quietly as tears formed in his eyes and began to stream down his cheek. This is a historic moment for our country. Thirty years after Rodney King. Its a feeling like no other, Graham said to CBS 12 News through tears. That black and brown people can see justice on this level.

His father called the three guilty verdicts in the George Floyd murder bittersweet. It was very hard for me to just sit there and watch that. I m praying for the Floyd family and praying that God will continue to strengthen them as they go through this process.
Clinton Jones says the trial brought back memories of sitting in the courtroom, watching Nouman Raja be tried for the death of his son.
