There’s $6 million set aside to assist up to 1,000 Anderson County families with missed rent payments during the pandemic, and approximately $500,000 of that has been given out so far.
The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) is available to certain families to assist with rent and utility payments, and AIM Charities director Kristi King-Brock feels the organization is right on track with the disbursements.
“On Monday, we had 52 applications that had been processed and payments made, King-Brock said last week. We had 68 that were in the queue. More than 600 people have already submitted the pre-application and just haven t finished their application.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Nursing students at the University of Southern Mississippi eagerly await graduation next week, but it’s not just the graduation ceremony they look forward to.
“We have what we call a recognition and pinning ceremony,” said Dr. Elizabeth Tinnon, director of the USM School of Professional Nursing Practice.
USM officials say they were unsure how the ceremony would look this year, but a Hattiesburg church is lending a helping hand due to its large space.

Dr. Virgil Orr, 98, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, April 24, 2021. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.
Interment will follow in the Douglas Cemetery in Choudrant, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.
A visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.
Virgil was born in February, 1923, and reared in Glenmora, where he graduated from Glenmora High School as valedictorian. He then moved to Ruston to attend Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech University). There he met his soul mate, Myrtis Chandler, where they both worked in the Tech Dining Hall. He later became her tutor for organic chemistry, and they always said, “Our chemistry worked real well together.”
