Students enrolled in Temple High Schoolâs construction trades program will have the chance to judge local homebuilders on Friday during the Temple Area Builders Associationâs Parade of Homes â an event that showcases newly constructed homes in Bell County.
The opportunity to engage with the industryâs area leaders was presented through TABAâs partnership with Temple High, Temple ISD spokesman Christian Hernandez said.
âStudents will tour 10 of the 13 homes in this yearâs parade,â Hernandez said in a new release. âStudents will judge the builds on various criteria to determine which home will win the first annual Studentâs Choice Award.â
Nearly 30 years after the Temple Independent School District implemented the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Temple High in 1992, Lisa Adams â the districtâs assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction â said student engagement is still going strong.
âAs the only district in Central Texas to offer a K-12 IB experience, we have seen firsthand how this investment makes a difference in the lives of our students,â Adams said during an April board meeting. âWe are immensely proud of the staff members at our IB campuses who go above and beyond to foster curiosity, diversity and a love for learning for our students.â
–Students enrolled in the Paso Robles High School, Templeton High School, Shandon High School, and Los Osos Middle School Friday Night Live (FNL) chapters are working on a year-long social norms campaign that seeks to tackle the issue of underage drinking.
The campaign is part of a larger statewide effort to reduce underage drinking. Thirty-five FNL chapters are working to change social norms in communities across California. In general, young people tend to overestimate the number of their peers who choose to partake in underage drinking. Friday Night Live students are challenging this misperception by promoting positive messaging to not using alcohol before age 21.

Coach’s comment: I’m nominating Robbie Lardner, varsity Pitcher THS for athlete of the week. On April 17, Robbie started on the mound vs. SLO High School. He pitched a complete game, 7 innings, gave up 0 earned runs, and struck out 18 batters. He also went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and scored 3 runs. It was a total dominating game on both sides for him and definitely his best game of the season to date. What’s more impressive is he did this against a D1 school, THS is a D3.
