1. Amberley Castle, near Arundel
Steeped in 900 years of history, Amberley Castle is like something out of a fairytale. Behind those medieval walls lies 12 acres of formal gardens with rose-covered arches, topiary, perennial borders and Koi carp ponds.
The food: Those wanting to dine al fresco can order from the all-day pantry menu, enjoy afternoon tea, or order a luxury hamper packed with treats. Plump for the Laurent-Perrier Champagne Afternoon Tea Flight, which delights with cakes, savoury bites and finger sandwiches served with tea or coffee and three different glasses of Champagne.

The tranquil riverfront gardens and immaculate lawns at the Swan give little hint of its colourful past. In the 70s, the house was home to cabaret star Danny La Rue. Thankfully, the decor is cool rather than kitsch, with polished wood floors and muted fabrics that leave the natural colours of the gardens to shine. Thereâs a relaxed feel to proceedings â the Coppa Club restaurant operates on both a dine-in and takeaway basis, where guests can order pizzas or burgers and take them anywhere in the grounds to eat.

Coppa Club promises to be “a laid back place to be used for whatever you need”.
Opening its first bar and restaurant in the Berkshire village of Sonning-on-Thames, there are now seven Coppa Clubs across London and the south east.
Venturing further west than Maidenhead for the first time, Bristol will be the location for the group’s newest venue.

The all-day bar and restaurant is due to open in the former Pizza Express on Regent Street in Clifton Village, a spacious site which was once a garage.

Emily Craig, of Abrahams Road, Henley, admitted to being the owner of a dachshund cross-breed which injured a man at the Coppa Club in August 2020. Known as ‘Jeffrey’, the mutt was ‘dangerously out of control’ and attached Mr Yuan Li William De Gregorio at the venue’s beer garden. Craig, who is 28-years-old, pleaded guilty to being in charge of Jeffrey at Reading Magistrates Court on March 30, 2021. She has been remanded on unconditional bail until June, when she will again appear at Magistrates to learn her sentence.
