Among the biggest challenges the industry faces is a severe shortage of technicians, specifically an extremely low number of young people willing to train to fill the positions that are open. Equipment dealerships across the country openly state that one of the biggest challenges they face in the future of their operations is being properly staffed with heavy equipment technicians.

BOCES Career and Technical School located in Schoharie, N.Y., offers high school students educational opportunities in a wide variety of vocational areas, some of which would build a basic foundation for work in an equipment dealership. Some of these vocational areas include heavy equipment operation, auto body collision and repair, diesel mechanics, welding and metal fabrication.

The chef and restaurateur Yono Purnomo, a vital presence in the Capital Region restaurant scene for more than 40 years, was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree by SUNY Cobleskill. Approved last year but delayed because of the pandemic, it was officially conferred at the school’s virtual commencement last Saturday (5/15).

The first major championship on the local men’s amateur golf schedule is in the record book, and a few interesting and unexpected story lines developed.
Long-hitting Steve Quillinan Jr., who moved to Boston a couple of years ago yet still is a member of the Country Club of Troy, claimed his third Tri-County Match Play Championship last weekend at Colonie Golf & Country Club with a 3-and-2 win over Tom McGinn, a player largely forgotten except by his many friends.

have announced that shoppers will not be required to register for a COVID vaccine appointment as the grocery chain will administer vaccines on a walk-in basis. This change is applicable at all Price Chopper/Market 32 stores in New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Here in Central New York there are locations in Utica, Rome, New Hartford, Oneida, Hamilton, Richfield Springs, and Little Falls.
In New York State, individuals age 16 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Price Chopper and Market 32’s supply is approved for individuals age 18 and older.
Appointments
are not required, the chain recommends calling the pharmacy ahead of arrival to check the availability of doses and confirm the customer’s vaccine of choice is available.
