An unusually large group of about 5,000 Moroccans, many of them minors or families, illegally swam into Spain s northern African enclave of Ceuta on Monday, a spokesperson for the Spanish government s delegation there said.
One person died in the attempt, the spokesperson said.
Crowds of mostly young people swam onto the beach, some running or showing thumbs up, footage by local media Faro showed, in activity that started overnight and gathered pace later in the day.

AN IRISH charity worker is feared dead after being kidnapped by terrorists during an anti-poaching patrol in Burkina Faso.
Two bodies, believed to be those of two Spanish journalists, have also been found after four people were reportedly abducted yesterday following an armed ambush.

Three Europeans along with a member of the Burkinabe armed forces went missing following the attack in the Fada N Gourma-Pama area.
Irish authorities said they were aware of the reports and they were liaising closely with local authorities regarding the situation, reports Deutsche Welle.
