Qualls was an automatic weapons squad leader with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Airborne Infantry Strike Force, 101st Airborne Division, from March 1965 until July 1966. Initially he was in Cam Rahn Bay. From there he went to the central highlands up to An Khe and to Kon Tum Province.
When his company went out on their nightly patrols, his 12-member squad provided the automatic weapons fire. The 22-year-old specialist four carried an M60 machine gun, an Army .45-caliber pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.

An elderly priest and two others from a parish in Vietnam’s Central Highlands have been stabbed by a former prisoner with a history of mental disorders.
Father Thaddeus Vo Xuan Son, a member of Kontum Diocese s communication committee, announced that Father John Baptist Tran Quang Truyen, parish priest of An Khe in Gia Lai province, was severely stabbed in his stomach at his parish house at 11am on April 22 by a local young man.

Three people illegally entered Vietnam Wednesday from Cambodia, where Covid-19 is raging, and traveled to various places around the country, but have tested negative for the novel coronavirus.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, they entered Tay Ninh Province through unmanned trails at 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The trio, a man and two women,
took a taxi from Tan Bien Town to HCMC and stayed at a hotel near Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
