A HOME on the market for £3 million has found a buyer within weeks of going up for sale. The 10-bedroom home at Holywath, Coniston, was described as a distinguished country gentleman s manor house and was the most expensive single home on the market in Cumbria. According to property agents Ashdown Jones it is now under offer having been listed in the middle of May. The part-Victorian 1890s home sits on a private six acre plot and can be run completely off grid or on-grid . It has seven en-suite bathrooms and a games room. The original servant s bell are also still in place.

It s hard to beat the Lake District for a summer staycation

I’ll admit I’m spoilt. Having the Lake District National Park within an hour’s drive of my front door is a privilege – especially in a time when staycations are in vogue.
This week the National Park is celebrating its 70th anniversary – its platinum milestone comes as the area prepares for the kickstart of holidays and hospitality businesses and hotels work to lift the shutters after months in lockdown.
During lockdown which was your favourite nature walk or adventurous route? ADVENTURE: Which Lake District walk would you like to recommend?
1. Orrest Head The amazing view over the top of Windermere may require a steep climb but it is worth it. It was the subject of a chapter in Alfred Wainwright s book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland . It was also the first fell he completed on his arrival to Windermere. James Ford said: “Orrest Head. The views from up there are just the best.”
2. Helvellyn The incredible mountain which may really drive you to dig deep up the higher parts, it will reward you with an amazing sense of accomplishment.
Less than half of the Lake District fell paths rangers had hoped to upgrade during 2020 were worked on as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. A spokesman for the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) said the impact of coronavirus on work to maintain the paths had been considerable . They said: “We lost 50 per cent of our staff time over the fell season (March-October). This was due to all staff being furloughed for nine weeks during April to June, and also because we had to halt recruitment of five Fix the Fells Rangers in March because of the pandemic’s impact on finances.
