Barros is close to announcing a bid for Boston mayor

John Barros, Bostonâs chief of economic development since 2014, is on the cusp of announcing this month he will run for mayor, people close to his thinking say, joining an increasingly crowded race.
Barros, who placed sixth in the 2013 Boston preliminary mayoral race, said in a brief phone call that heâs continuing to have âreally encouraging conversations across the cityâ about joining the race.
The inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris really marks a historic, critical transition from an administration that has really been defined by cruelty, corruption, callousness, contempt. And so, to now have a president and a vice president who will lead with compassion and empathy, I feel relieved, I feel encouraged and I feel emboldened. You know, emboldened to begin to deliver on the decisive mandate from the diverse coalition of voters that elected them that made it possible for democracy to breathe another day to advance broad progressive policies. And to begin immediately reversing many of the hurt and harms that were caused by the Trump administration.

ACROSS AMERICA While organizers of the Boston Marathon made the decision to postpone this year s event indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event is testing a new way to create camaraderie among participants in lieu of the real thing.
Organizers this year have launched a virtual Athletes Village, an attempt to keep runners connected as the group works out a date for the 125th running of the planet s most storied footrace.
It has now been confirmed that Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s husband Conan Harris is among those who have tested positive for coronavirus after being made to shelter-in-place at the Capitol building with Republicans who refused to wear masks. Last Wednesday, Harris was with Pressley to attend her swearing-in ceremony when the group of Trump supporters broke into the federal building. This Tuesday it was confirmed that Harris contracted COVID-19 and although Pressley has tested negative she has still opted to quarantine as a safety precaution.
