Updates given on 3 Lowndes County homicides Lowndes County law enforcement updates public on 3 homicides By WSFA Staff | February 23, 2021 at 10:05 AM CST - Updated February 23 at 12:18 PM LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - Lowndes County law enforcement gathered Tuesday morning to provide updates to the public on three active homicide investigations, one of which involves a suspect who only recently completed a decades-long prison sentence for another homicide. Investigator Jeremy Marvin with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said the cases involve unrelated homicides on Jan. 18, Feb. 8 and one on Sunday. Arrests have been made in two of the cases while details on the third case remain more limited.

The exception is the northeast corner of the state, where a wedge of cooler air still in place. A cold front will slice into the state tonight, and the risk of severe storms has increased based on the latest model data. SPC has introduced a “slight risk” (level 2/5) for areas north of a line from Northport to Warrior to Guntersville, and a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) extends as far south as Jackson, Fort Deposit, and Opelika.

Scott Martin | January 1, 2021 @ 6:59 am A broken line of showers and thunderstorms continues to move across the eastern half of North/Central Alabama as showers along the cold front are dissipating in intensity. The cold front is currently located over the extreme western parts of the area near the Mississippi state line, and there is no rain falling behind the front. There is a small tongue of instability right along the I-65 corridor stretching south of Calera down to Fort Deposit and south. This may be where the best opportunity for stronger to severe storms to form later this morning, especially with temperatures already in the upper 60s to 70 degrees and dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s. Wind shear continues to be in the 50-60 knot range, which is more than enough to get storms started. There is plenty of helicity available as well, so we’ll have to continue to watch locations south of a line from Rockford to LaFayette and east of the I-65 corridor as these storms mo
