Potent system moves through into Monday

A strong, Canadian cold front continues to move into the region bringing falling temperatures, rain changing to snow and brisk northerly winds.
As the front dives south through the Treasure State, rain will switch over to snow by later Sunday afternoon and furthermore throughout the overnight hours.
Winter Weather Advisories have been posted and are as follows:
Petroleum & southwest Phillips Co s (until midnight tonight): 1 - 4 .
Rocky Mountain Front including Logan Pass, Browning, Heart Butte, Bynum, Choteau & Augusta (noon Sunday - 3am Monday): 3 - 6 below pass level and 5 - 10 above. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for Roosevelt and Sheridan Counties until tomorrow night.
A LAKE WIND ADVISORY has been issued for Fort Peck Lake until tonight.
The state started the day with cold temperatures and even colder wind chill values. A few locations in portions of southwest and northcentral Montana wind chill values were in the single digits and teens. A few locations around the state did wake up to light snow and slightly gusty wind. Thankfully, the snow showers that will continue to fall in northeast Montana is much needed. The drought monitor indicates portions of northeast Montana are current under extreme drought conditions. The National Weather Service has put in place a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of northeast Montana for snow and wind. Roosevelt and Sheridan counties could see between four to six inches of snow, and the wind will be gusting up to

Temperatures are fairly chilly this morning with many areas in the low to mid 20s, not including the wind chill. You will definitely want to grab a jacket as you head out the door.
Meanwhile in Eastern Montana a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the potential to see an additional 4 -6 of snow through Midnight Wednesday. Winds gusting to 35 mph could also create visibility issues with blowing snow. Be sure to check road reports and take extra time if traveling in this part of the state. A Lake Wind Advisory has also been issued through later tonight for choppy waters on Fort Peck Lake.
