Four new deaths and 399 new cases of covid19 have been reported in the Health Ministry’s covid19 update for Wednesday. The total number of deaths is now 189.
Of the new deaths, two were elderly males, one with comorbidities, one middle-aged female with comorbidities, and one middle aged male without comorbidities.
Of the 399 cases, two were recently repatriated cases. The total number of active cases is 3,024. Since March, there have been 12,105 cases, of which 8,892 have recovered.
There are 276 people in hospital. There are 120 people in the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility, ten in the intensive care unit and 30 in the high dependency unit. There are 77 at the Caura Hospital, 39 at the Augustus Long Hospital, 18 at the Arima Hospital, 21 at the Scarborough Regional Hospital, Fort King George, and one at the Scarborough General Hospital, Signal Hill.
5 more deaths, 158 new covid19 cases reported
Five more covid19 deaths have been recorded, bringing the total to 179.
Three were elderly men with comorbidities, one was a middle-aged man with no comorbidities, and the Health Ministry was awaiting information on the fifth.
In its covid19 update on Monday, the ministry said 158 new cases had been reported from samples taken between April 30 and May 2.
The total number of active cases stood at 2,559.
Since March 2020, there have been 11,471 cases. Of these 8,733 have recovered.
There are now 240 people in hospital, including 114 at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility, with five in the intensive-care unit and 14 in the high dependency unit.

THE National Trust, in partnership with Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd, recognised the creative work of young artists who participated in its Heritage is Me art competition which was done to commemorate the International Day for Monuments and Sites.
Student in the six-18 year range were given five weeks to create and submit an original work of art based on any built or natural heritage site in the country, said a media release from the National Trust.

There was no indication that year 2020 would provide an unusual confluence of water, disease and culture which would inflict a severe blow to Tobago’s heritage. But the year ended as it began, with water management problems that proved detrimental to Tobago.
At the very start of the year, concerns about the island’s water supply commanded administrative attention amid the reality of a fierce dry season and reduced rainfall. The resulting subnormal water levels at the Hillsborough Dam led to the implementation of strict water restrictions which were challenged by covid19 and the increased demand for water to sanitise.
