The Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit South, with the assistance of several RCMP detachments and specialized units, have been working to investigate the suspicious death of a male infant that occurred in Canora, SK, on November 21, 2020. As a result of this investigation, 23-year-old Waylon Hilliard Severight of the Cote First Nation, SK, has been charged with Second Degree Murder under Sec. 235(1) the Criminal Code for the death of Lorenzo Cote. Severight was arrested without incident on Cote First Nation by members of the Yorkton RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section and RCMP Major Crimes Unit South on March 12, 2021. article continues below

According to an RCMP news release, the Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit South and members of the Yorkton RCMP arrested Severight without incident on the Cote First Nation on March 12.

An individual from the Cote First Nation has been charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of a toddler.
23-year-old Waylon Severight appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court this morning (Mon) and is scheduled to appear again April 8th.
RCMP note the accused was known to the victim, 21-month-old Lorenzo Cote.
On November 21st, RCMP and emergency crews were called to a Canora residence to a report of a one-year-old boy needing urgent medical care.
Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene, by EMS personnel.
