Public anger over how local lawmakers are governing has prompted the province to launch a review of how the Town of Coaldale is governed.
Earlier this week, Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver said he’s ordered a review of Coaldale’s governance in response to a petition signed by more than 2,300 residents voicing concern over the town’s decision making, accountability, transparency and treatment of employees.

“While this program does not include interviews with members of the public, I believe it will be beneficial for the town and assist in addressing some of the issues identified,” McIver stated in a letter to Jack Van Rijn, who’s led the petition effort.

Little League® International mourns the passing of Mitch Ball, a longtime Little League Canada umpire, who officiated games in the 2002 Little League Baseball® World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He was 47.
Mr. Ball, a resident of Coaldale, Alberta, Canada, began his volunteer service to Little League as a junior umpire in Lethbridge, Alberta. Years later, he proudly represented Little League Canada at Howard J. Lamade Stadium, as the plate umpire for the 2002 Little League Baseball® World Series United States Championship Game. Throughout his life, he supported Little League umpires as a mentor and educator.

In 2020, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) initiated the Rural Mental Health Project as a way for rural communities in Alberta to address mental health issues and areas of concern which needs specific attention. Instead of the provincial body of CMHA doing a top-down method of solutions, those in the specific communities are addressing the problems themselves. Jessica Turowski, Rural Mental Health Project Manager says it has been interesting to see how the groups have developed throughout Alberta. The idea is to have group leaders or what is referred to as animators organize a community networks that addresses certain pertinent issues for that community. For some it is youth or seniors’bullying, some has to to do with isolation, perhaps it is suicide. These animators then develop an action plan to best address these issues with the group and take appropriate action such as setting up a communications
