Phuket suffers yet another COVID death
PHUKET: For the second consecutive day the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) has reported a death in Phuket attributed to COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities attributed to the disease to nine since the latest wave of infections hit the island on Apr 3.

The death was marked in the PPHO daily COVID situation report for yesterday (July 12). As with the death marked in the report for Sunday (July 11), no details of the death have been provided.
The latest death marks the third COVID death recorded by officials in the past 13 days.

PHUKET: Two Myanmar children, aged 8 and 9, have been placed in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 during the second round of RT-PCR tests conducted on Days 6-7 of their stay under the Phuket Sandbox scheme.

Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) Chief Dr Kusak Kukiattikoon confirmed the news yesterday while reporting nine new local cases of infection.
Despite the children testing positive during their second mandatory test under the Phuket Sandbox scheme, Dr Kusak did not speculate whether they were already infected but passed their first test on arriving in Phuket or whether they became infected while among Phuket’s general population.

Dr Kusak explained that the 12 tourists who have asked to fly home were among the 14 people who arrived on Emirates flight EK378, which landed in Phuket on Tuesday (July 6).

However, Dr Kusak urged the public not to panic over international arrivals bringing the virus to Phuket.
“Worry more about domestic arrivals,” he said.
The tourist was confirmed infected after a RT-PCR test was conducted on a swab sample taken at Phuket International Airport when the man landed on Tuesday (July 6). The test results became available late Tuesday night.
