NR10 nearly 50% finished, real estate market yawns

Property prices along the under-construction National Road 10 have not seen a marked increase, even as work on the road nears 50 per cent completion, according to real estate observers.
The more than 198km National Road 10 links Battambang province’s Samlot district through Pursat province’s Veal Veng district to Koh Kong provincial town. On March 9, 2020, Prime Minister Hun Sen broke ground on the road, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.

KNPG Investment gets Koh Kong sand-mining licence

KNPG Investment Co Ltd obtained a licence to mine silica sand in Koh Kong province s southwest, at a site previously operated by Sibelco (Cambodia) Co Ltd.
Deputy provincial governor Ouk Pheaktra led a virtual meeting on May 13 to discuss with company representatives the results of KNPG Investment s full environmental and social impact assessment process for the project in Kiri Sakor district s Prek Khsach commune.
He told The Post that there wouldn t be much of a project-related impact, noting that the site is an existing venture.
The government on May 13 broke ground on the construction of a $1.5 million medium-sized multi-purpose sea port in Koh Kong province to boost trade and tourism between Cambodia and Thailand.

Ministry probes exports of luxury wood to Hong Kong

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries denied that it had allowed the exports of luxury wood from Koh Kong province to Hong Kong.
The denial came after the Hong Kong Customs reportedly seized about 211 tonnes of logs from an endangered tree species from Cambodia between April 29 and May 5.
The ministry said it was investigating the case.

More than 100 families living in Chroy Svay commune in Koh Kong province’s Sre Ambel district protested in front of the district hall to demand that authorities keep 63ha of lowland forest as state property and take legal action against forest encroachers.
A community representative told The Post on condition of anonymity that over 13ha of the forest in the commune’s Chroy Svay Khang Keurt village had been illegally cleared by unidentified individuals early this year.
