The special is produced by Plimsoll Productions and will be narrated by Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett (9-1-1). Beginning April 18, the special will be available on FOX’s free streaming platform, Tubi. The special takes viewers through the exhilarating and harrowing life of Malika. This untold story of the lioness’s experience is an educational exploration about the true queens and leaders in the lion kingdom. It is a stunning masterpiece of visual storytelling and offers a uniquely personal insight into one of the most powerful animals to walk the earth today.

Malika The Lion Queen. “This is a space we at Fox have been looking to enter; but we wanted to be strategic about it and the premise had to be something big and broad that would appeal to all viewers. When Grant [Mansfield] and Tom [Hugh-Jones] pitched Malika, I knew straight away it was right for us,” Rob Wade (pictured left), president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment, tells Realscreen. The series executive produced by Plimsoll’s Tom Hugh-Jones, Martha Holmes and Grant Mansfield – travels to South Africa’s Kruger National Park, the home of lioness Malika. Narrated by Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett, the special takes viewers into the life of the lioness, exploring the role the animals play in the lion kingdom.

Malika the Lion Queen will air on Easter Sunday US broadcast network Fox has ordered a two-hour wildlife documentary narrated by actor Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got to Do With It, Black Panther). From Plimsoll Productions, Malika the Lion Queen follows the lionesses of a powerful pride in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, focusing on the exhilarating and harrowing life of one lioness called Malika. Exec producing are Plimsoll’s creative director of natural history Tom Hugh-Jones, head of natural history Martha Holmes and CEO Grant Mansfield. Malika the Lion Queen will air on Fox on Easter Sunday and will be available on Fox’s AVoD platform Tubi later in April. Plimsoll-owned Magnify Media is distributing the doc.
