I last spoke to some of you in mid-March.
That was an opportunity to reflect on an extraordinary 12 months, but also to reflect on how the future was shaping up.
In what has truly become a sign of our rapidly-changing times, even eight weeks later much has changed, and we can add even more thinking and learning to how we shape the next 12 months.
Today I want to touch on that thinking, but I’ll also speak to some of the wider challenges facing New Zealand in 2021, especially as we head into the Budget.
Last week on Mother’s Day I found myself in Dunedin.

OPINION: Rob Campbell has fired a serve at company chairs and directors who refused to sign a joint letter to the Government calling for greater transparency on Covid, saying they were protecting their own arses and doing a major disservice to their communities.
Campbell who chairs SkyCity, Tourism Holdings and Summerset was among five listed company chairs who went public in early March calling for more openness and clarity from the Government on its plan for getting New Zealand to Covid normal . There were people who were directors and chairs of companies who didn t have the balls to sign the letter, Campbell told the Institute of Directors 2021 leadership conference on Thursday. That were worried about reaction, about being penalised, about being scapegoated.
The new organisation was still being finalised but about 40 to 50 jobs were likely to be lost by September 30, van Mossevelde said. “Following a strategic review in line with the aspirational goal to double the icebreaker business by 2025, VF has taken the decision to restructure its icebreaker business to enable future brand growth,” he said. Icebreaker has 16 shops in New Zealand, six in Australia and 15 in North America. The changes to the business will not affect consumers or the shops, van Mossevelde said.
