Kolkata: Cops in Bengal have deleted more than 500 fake posts of “post-poll violence in Bengal” and “Hindu genocide in Bengal” in the last 96 hours bu.
Kolkata: Chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay and the director general of police called on Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday evening. The governor had sought a status report on the post-poll violence in Bengal.
Dhankhar tweeted after the meeting: “Unfortunately both came without any paper or reports sought. Hope there is an appropriate response now.” The governor has directed them to send the papers “without delay”.
Dhankhar had sought for a detailed report on the continuing post-poll violence on May 3. The Union home ministry had also sought for the same from the state government. tnn

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle of the top brass of the state police, reinstating officers who were transferred after the Election Commission took over.
Banerjee reinstated DGP Virendra and ADG (law & order) Jawed Shamim in two key changes, the announcements made in her first press conference after being sworn in as CM for the third straight term.
The incumbents, DGP P Nirajnayan and ADG (law and order) Jag Mohan, were posted as DG (Fire Service) and director civil defence, respectively. Both Virendra and Shamim had been transferred by the poll panel. Virendra was posted as advisor West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, while Shamim was posted as DG (Fire).
