More Fun Than Fun: The Joys and Burdens of Our Heroes 12/05/2021
Among the books I read as a teenager, two completely changed my life. One was
The Double Helix by Nobel laureate James D. Watson. This book was inspiring at many levels and instantly got me addicted to molecular biology. The other was
King Solomon’s Ring by Konrad Lorenz, soon to be a Nobel laureate. The study of animal behaviour so charmingly and unforgettably described by Lorenz kindled in me an eternal love for the subject.
The circumstances in which I read these two books are etched in my mind and may have partly contributed to my enthusiasm for them and their subjects.

NZ Bishops pray for end to violence on anniversary of Christchurch massacre
The Interfaith Committee of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference (NZCBC) expresses its support with the country’s Muslims, and prays for an end to violence as the nation commemorates the second anniversary of the 15 March 2019 Christchurch Massacre.

On Saturday, New Zealand marked the second anniversary of the tragic killing of fifty-one worshippers at two Christchurch mosques by a gunman. Several hundred people gathered at the Christchurch Arena for the national remembrance service in honor of those who died during the attack.
In a gesture of closeness and solidarity, the New Zealand Bishops’ Committee for Interfaith Relations sent a letter of support to the country’s Muslim communities.

Under the plans lodged by Project Urban on behalf of Colin MacLeod, Harbour Lights would be demolished for three large and contemporary apartments. The development application said it complied with the medium to high density zoning and would fit in with the suburb and street s character. The three-storey unit block would be architecturally designed by Sprout Architects with two three-bedroom apartments and the third with one bedroom. All apartments are orientated to capture spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the application said. Each unit has generous balconies and open space areas that far exceed the minimum planning scheme requirement. The building will present a modern, elegant and attractive built form with high level finishes and horizontal and vertical articulation.
