The provincial government of Ontario announced measures on April 16th that outdoor activities, including golf, would be shut down. Reasoning behind the move was to stop the movement of people heading to the golf course. The theory being that people from different households would congregate on the course and then possibly continue on to somewhere else. In essence, a lot of movement involving contact with other people. Yet, there was no data to suggest that golf was a dangerous activity. In fact, the Science Advisory Table encouraged people to be outside and deemed golf safe. Under the Reopening Ontario Act Section 7.0.2 golf is illegal, for now. One golf course has decided that the law is beyond idiotic and is flaunting the law. The Bridges of Tillsonburg Golf Club has been open for some time and finally, the OPP, has begun to charge golfers. The club has also been charged and will be in court on June 3 facing potential fines of up to $10 million dollars.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers? We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions. What should we do with our second vote in 2021? What happens if Westminster says no to indyref2? Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversation, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. We’ve had hundreds of emails from you complaining about this, asking us to take steps to ensure that these people aren’t given a platform on our site.
