MACON, Ga. It s been more than a week since healthcare workers at Central Georgia hospitals received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
13WMAZ was there as many of them received their vaccines. At the time, they said the shot felt just like a flu shot.
So, how are they doing now that the vaccine has had time to get into their system? Well, doctors from Navicent Health, Houston Healthcare and Fairview Park Hospital say their most severe symptom was a sore arm.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. Hospitals in Central Georgia are filling up with COVID-19 patients fast.
They are still feeling the effects of the Thanksgiving holiday, along with people gathering inside as the temperature drops.
On Tuesday, Houston Healthcare had a total of 86 COVID-19 patients. That s not including the Christmas surge they are anticipating next week. We re full. We have pretty much all of our ICU/ICA beds taken up. We have all of the floors where we have COVID patients are full, and the rest of our med surge beds are full as well, said the hospital s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Dan Stewart.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) Coliseum Health System and North Central Health District received shipments of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday.
Coliseum began administering the vaccine to frontline workers in their hospital system. They expect to vaccinate 800 people with this shipment. It’s not a requirement to get the vaccine, but about 70 percent of their staff is choosing to get the vaccine.
Coliseum Health System CEO, Stephen Daugherty, says the vaccine is another step towards protecting their staff.
“Once we have our staff protected we know we’ll be able to be here for the patients and the rest of the community that are going to need us through the remainder of the pandemic,” said Daugherty.

Christmas came early for about 200 doctors and nurses at Coliseum Medical Centers in the form of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The hospital received their first shipment of Moderna s vaccine on Wednesday and started vaccinating people early Thursday morning.
ICU Director Jody Dykes got to give his wife, Clinical Educator Christi Dykes, her Christmas present.
A COVID-19 vaccine. To be able to do that for her was nice knowing that not only she got it and she s hopefully going to have good immunity going forward, but I was able to help give her that, Jody said.

MACON, Ga. Does it matter if you get the Moderna or the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine? The short answer is, probably not.
Some healthcare workers in Georgia have already gotten Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine. Moderna s is expected to be approved for emergency use authorization by the FDA this week.
According to two local infectious disease specialists, Dr. Jeff Stephens and Dr. Jennifer Hoffman, the two vaccines have more similarities than differences. These vaccines are similar in the way that they work and the way that they are set up, says Stephens, with Navicent Health.
