Caution: Heavy rain pushes mud and debris onto trails

COLORADO SPRINGS â We know that after rain events, we will get some debris and mud flow in these low-lying areas. So, we want everybody to be cautious.â Scott Abbott supervises trails and open spaces for Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. After recent intense mid-May rain, his crews are clearing hazards on a lot of local trails.
Some trails along creeks are coated with several inches of slick mud. Large rocks and branches are also on trails. The sudden hazards could cause a hiker to twist an ankle or a cyclist to catch a wheel and go over the handlebars.
Trees planted downtown ahead of Colorado Springs’ 150th Anniversary in July
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) Celebrations are already underway for the Colorado Springs 150th anniversary coming up in July of 2021.
City leaders, including Mayor John Suthers, gathered at Alamo Square Park to plant two red oak trees in honor of our city and its founder.
Colorado Springs was founded back in 1871 by General Willam Jackson Palmer. It was nearly treeless at the time, but Palmer changed that by planting thousands of trees in our city.
City officials are carrying on that tradition through the COS 150 Tree Challenge , which aims to plant 18,071 trees by the end of 2021.

April was not only Earth Month, but also National Poetry Month. The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department recently held a Leave No Trace trainer course for the new Trails Open Space and Parks (TOPS) seasonal staff members. In celebration of these two themes, we decided to initiate the course with an activity called the Exquisite Corpse Technique.

During this icebreaker, the six participants as well as the two instructors each contributed one line to create a poem. As the poem was passed through the group, the writer only saw the line written by the person before them.

Panorama Park to undergo largest neighborhood park renovation in City history
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) Saturday, a local park in the Pikes Peak region is getting a major renovation.
Panorama Park is set to undergo the largest neighborhood park renovation in reported City history.
The space in Southeast Colorado Springs, adjacent to Panorama Middle School, is currently a very small playground.
Now, much of the undeveloped land will be transformed into a newly renovated park.
