According to the folks at Nielsen, Joe Biden’s big speech Wednesday night – his first, if unofficial, State of the Union – was a ratings flop.
But if those who skipped the speech had known what they’d be missing, it might have been a different story. This was the night in which Biden would declare an end to Reaganism – trickle-down economics, Biden advised, never works – and a proposed return to New Deal/Great-Society-style politics.

Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of Calif., applaud as President Joe Biden addresses a joint session of Congress, Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the House Chamber at the U.S. Capitol in Washington.
Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse said every time the President of the United States delivers a national address before a joint session of Congress is an historic moment. He’s attended three State of the Union speeches, but Wednesday was his first time hearing a president from his party.
It “provided a compelling and optimistic and a hopeful vision for the future of our country,” Neguse said. “Throughout the speech the president appealed to the better angels of our nature.”
On April 26, the U.S. Census Bureau confirmed what has long been suspected: Colorado s population gain over the past decade has qualified the state for a new congressional district, its eighth. And although the process of determining where that district will be located is supposed to be nonpartisan, political organizations are already jockeying for position in an effort to tilt the process to their advantage before November 2022, when the district s first representative will be elected. This is great news for Colorado and great news for Republicans, Brown maintains. Come 2022, Coloradans will send another strong, conservative leader to D.C. to fight for our state. Colorado Democrats are solely focused on an extreme agenda that prioritizes raising taxes, packing the Supreme Court, and destroying our healthcare system meanwhile, Colorado Republicans are presenting an agenda that aims to lower taxes, protect our environment, and support our students and parents.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Monday passed the SAFE Banking Act, a longtime priority for Coloradans in Congress and local cannabis companies.
The House voted 321-101 on the bill, with all Colorado Democrats in favor and two Colorado Republicans opposed. A third Republican, Rep. Lauren Boebert, did not vote.
It now moves to the U.S. Senate, which is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, and some in the latter party worry passing it will increase marijuana use and foreign investments.
